The Sound Lab presents: Music Makes Glasgow

Following an absolute belter of an event at Drygate in 2024, we’re delighted to announce that ‘Music Makes Glasgow’ is back!

All children and young people should be able to access music education and explore their creative potential. With youth clubs shutting down across the country, and tuition being expensive, we know that, for many children, this isn’t the case. The Sound Lab provides free, grassroots music education and instrument loans for:

• Care experienced children and young people

• Young people with lived experience of displacement (asylum seekers / refugees)

• Children and young people with disabilities or additional support needs

• Children living in areas of deprivation.

Join us on October 4th for a one-day fundraising festival, celebrating the importance of creativity in our community. Featuring performances from Sound Lab students and young people from some of our partner organisations, plus workshops, stallholders, a raffle, and professional performances from:

ALICE FAYE

Fresh from performing for Jo Whiley and co. at BBC Radio 2 in the Park in Stirling, Alice Faye is one of the rising stars of the Scottish music scene. In the last year she’s won both the BBC Introducing Scottish Act of the Year 2026 and the SAY Award Sound of Young Scotland Award. Do believe the hype – she has a sound that is timeless, powerful and unique. Drawing on both the rich, chanson tradition of Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel plus the folk and country of 60’s Laurel Canyon, Alice Faye knows her onions. With a wry sense of humour and a keen ear for melody, she knows how to cast a spell from the piano stool. Her heroes? Rufus Wainwright, Paul McCartney, David Bowie. Our new hero? Alice Faye.

KITTI

Sound Lab tutor and all-round good egg Kitti has been a part of the Glasgow music scene since the tender age of 15. Her peerless songwriting chops and powerful voice have seen her garner tons of awards, including x2 Best Jazz Vocalist of the Year (Scottish Jazz Awards) and Best Female Breakthrough artist (Scottish Music Awards). Often compared to artists like Amy Winehouse and Ella Fitzgerald, she’s supported the likes of Rod Stewart, Mavis Staples and Van Morrison. Her killer debut album – ‘Somethin’ in the Water’ was released on Rebecca’s Records in 2025 and nominated for the SAY Award in that same year. When this band hit their stride there’s no stopping them - get excited!

PAQUE

Legend of the Scottish hip hop scene, Paque has been tutoring with the Sound Lab since 2024. Alongside performing a few tracks himself Paque will be curating a mini hip-hop section of the show - showcasing some of the promising rappers of tomorrow who’ve been working with him and fellow Sound Lab tutor Steg G.

Fresh from her debut run at the Stand as part of the Fringe, your MC for the day will be the brilliant up-and-coming comedian Ifrah Qureshi!

This will be an event for all ages, with child-friendly workshops for kids to get stuck into - under 10's go free!

RAFFLE:

Recognising the importance of what we do, Scottish music legend PAOLO NUTINI has donated us a signed guitar to raffle off on the day. One lucky winner will be taking home this brilliant instrument. Can’t make it to the show? You can still buy a raffle ticket – we’ll be doing the draw live from the stage on October 4th.

Fascism and intolerance are becoming all too common in our communities of late. Here at The Sound Lab we stand firmly in opposition to all forms of intolerance and discrimination. Being a welcoming space for a diversity of languages, abilities, cultures, and ethnicities makes our communities far richer, not poorer. Music Makes Glasgow will be a fully-accessible family-friendly celebration of inclusivity and diversity - those values that represent what our city is really all about.
