Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve is home to the endangered Southern Pink Underwing moth. It relies on one single species of vine for survival – the Carronia vine (Carronia multisepatea) which is highly dependent on a healthy closed rainforest canopy and understory. This beautiful and charismatic moth has large brown forewings that provide camouflage by mimicking dying leaves and a flash of bright pink on the hindwings. The larval stage has some interesting aesthetic qualities and the caterpillar, when threatened, displays an amazing and dramatic 'mask'.
Fall in love with this endangered and fascinating moth and learn how you can be a part of its survival as Cam expertly provides us with greater knowledge of the Southern Pink Underwing Moth - its habits and habitats.
