The Spoken Word Soirée #9: Cheeky Tales, the Weird, Wayward & Wonderful

Welcoming you all back for our FINAL Spoken Word Soirée for 2026, and this is going to be a special one.

Join us on October 21st as we delve into the theme of 'Cheeky Tales - The Weird, Wayward and Wonderful.'

We're wandering off the well-trodden path and allowing some more play, light-heartedness and humour to come into this month's theme.

We welcome stories of mischief, misdemeanours, strange encounters, questionable behaviour, things you can’t quite explain, strange love, stories of awe and wonder and those that have no moral lesson whatsoever beyond peculiarity.

As usual, we’re not entirely sure where the evening will take us...which is the point.

This month's feature poet is the incredible Ellen Patterson aka High Hat Artist - a poet, thesbian, DJ, bespoke Milliner, Bird of Paradise and Flâneur!

This is a safe, inclusive space for poets, writers, musicians, performance poets, rappers, lovers of language, and artists of all levels to step forward, express yourself and be seen.

The mic is open for work(s)-in-progress, favourite poems, songs, slam poetry, prose, or spontaneous, channelled musings.

The work can be your own or from other writers you admire and cite.

Bring your words, your passion, and your presence.

Speaking spots are limited and fill up fast, so make sure to book your place; you’ll have three to five minutes to share your piece.

While performance is optional, there are collaborative audience elements throughout the night, inviting our participants to be co-creators in an evening of storytelling.

Enjoy a delicious dinner provided by our host Avalon at Heaps Good Food Store - a feast for the tummies, made with care.

Dinner plus a welcome elixir is included in the ticket price.

We will provide a complementary elixir on arrival. Additional cold drinks, warm, rich cacao and delicious treats can be purchased at the venue.

Please note, this is a drug and alcohol-free event.
