The Spooky Men in Concert featuring the Axis of Spook - COLLINGWOOD
Event description
The magnificent, many-headed singing beast that is the Spooky Men’s Chorale comes to Collingwood to carve out new territories of mighty sounds, exquisite tenderness, and charming stupidity. Festival favourites in Australia and the UK, they evoke musical worlds far beyond that suggested by their unassuming, casually hatted, black-clad appearance. They are just a bunch of blokes, but where they take you will blow your mind.
But wait! There's more! This concert comes with an optional extra!
The concert will feature the chance to sing with the Spooky Men by being a part of the “Axis of Spook”, a glorious ensemble that will assemble in the early afternoon before the gig to learn some songs and bits of songs to sing with the Spooky Men
The Axis will convene at the same venue as the concert from 1pm to 2.30pm.
Please NOTE: After the workshop we will have to politely ask that you all leave the venue so we can set it up for the gig which starts at 4pm. Find a nearby pub, or a cafe, or just take the opportunity to get your 10,000 steps in and go for a walk.
INSTRUCTIONS for the SINGERS!
good evening my dear fruitdrops
thank you so much for signing up to be a part of the axis of spook, in collingwood, next week
it is going to be SCRUMMY.
there are no less than FOUR songs that we would love you to join us on, but you need to know that there is not very much pressure on you, cos you’ll be singing WITH us. and we even want the audience to sing as well on most of them, so if you make a mistake you can just pretend you are an audient.
the exact demographic of where you will sit is being worked out by our crack team of feng shui experts as we speak, but we think it’d be cool to have some of the choir in the gallery.
at this point the axis has more than 200 people and slightly outnumbers the audience, so it is going to be a very very big wonderful thing.
we will sing these songs together:
mraval zhamier (georgian table song)
tee tee tay tay (a mash up of tina turner and taylor swift, you’ll just be singing from halfway, after “left a good job in the city”)
the sweetest kick in the heart (see if you can learn all of it)
treaty (all of it, or as much as you actually can sing!)
PLEASE NOTE: in all cases your part is panned to one side, and all other parts to the other side. so headphones are good!
it is NOT TOTALLY COMPULSORY to prepare yourself, but we’d love it if you did, and came well prepared.
all parts for all songs are to be found at my website, here, under ”resources”, as well as some of the sheet music:
https://www.stephentaberner.com/
and you can listen to/download/learn as much as you wish.
you can wear whatever you like, so long as it is clothing, and make sure you are there well in time for the 1pm start, cos we’ll have plenty to do! then at 2.30pm, we’ll have to ask very much most of you to wander the streets until the gig because there are Things To DO.
it shall be grand, it shall be fun, please gird your loins and keep spreading the word, there is still room for more!
please direct any (important) questions to stephenjtaberner@gmail.com
amen, hallelujah
