The Story of Your Life: A Writer’s Journey With Rosemary Stevens
Event description
Back by popular demand! This is the second The Story of Your Life course we’re running this year, following overwhelming interest in our earlier program. Building on the much-loved Life Writing series (2018–2023), this 6-week journey is perfect for anyone ready to explore their personal story—whether you’re continuing a memoir already underway or starting fresh with a new narrative.
Through a mix of engaging exercises and guided discussions, you’ll learn the building blocks of powerful life writing: vivid scenes, artful summary, and deep personal reflection. We’ll also dive into research techniques, including using photographs, memorabilia, and archives to add depth and authenticity to your story.
What You’ll Learn
Week 1: The Power of Scenes – Create vivid memories through evocative detail, action, and dialogue.
Week 2: Personal Reflection – Discover how to reveal the meaning behind your stories.
Week 3: The Art of Summary – Master pacing, clarity, and concise storytelling.
Week 4: Photographs & Memorabilia – Use personal artefacts to spark insights and stimulate further enquiry.
Week 5: Research for Depth & Authenticity – Enrich your work with online, library, and personal research.
Week 6: Bringing It All Together – Shape a short memoir piece and demystify the publishing process.
Along the way, you’ll explore key questions: Is a linear timeline right for your story? Or do recurring themes create a stronger structure? How do you find your authentic voice?
