About the Venue - Bucketty's Brewing Co, Brookvale

There is so much to learn about Bucketty's and its humble beginnings.  It's a family owned business with much blood, sweat and tears making it what it is today.

I can't think of a better place for Story Room Aus to call home, after-all beer and stories are like peas in a pod, they just fit perfectly.

The Food

Check out the menu. You certainly won't starve to death while you listen to some great stories. We are however trying to learn how many people might buy meals, as Nick the owner will open the food truck especially for us.

Meet the Storytellers (in no particular order)

James Pittar

James is an Australian marathon swimmer. He was the first Australian to complete the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming – the English Channel, the Manhattan Island Marathon, and the Catalina Channel and in the process became the first blind person to complete each of these events. He has successfully completed a marathon swimming event in all continents excluding Antartica and ironically, in 2013, he joined a contingent of 66 swimmers from around the world to swim an arctic relay across the Bering Strait from Russia to the USA and earn a spot in the Guinness Book of Records.

In addition to swimming, James has represented his country in rowing at the 1995 World Rowing Championships in the disabled category.

He was inducted into both the Australian and International Marathon Swimming Halls of Fame and has been an Australia Day Ambassador since 1999 travelling around NSW giving Australia Day addresses in a different country town each year. He works with the Rainbow Club, a charity dedicated to teaching disabled children to swim, as an Ambassador and The Fred Hollows Foundation as a fundraiser and he was awarded their “Helping Hand” Volunteer of the Year in 2013.

In 2019 he published his autobiography “Blind Vision” and is currently turning this into an Audio Book.

Anne has appeared on all major television networks speaking about sun protection and skin cancer and will appear in the documentary film ‘Conquering Skin Cancer’ towards the end of 2024.

Mick Miller

Mick has coached Olympians over seven games and three professional sports. However, there’s much more to his story than the accolades.

A fit-focused individual with a passion for swimming, Mick’s life took a harrowing turn during one of his regular swims. Discovering a lump that was later diagnosed as throat cancer, he was thrust into the most significant challenge of his life, far removed from the athletic fields he was accustomed to. But true to his nature, Mick wasn’t one to back down.
