Description
The Storyteller’s Toolkit - A practical workshop in successfully writing for film, digital media and stage.with Dr Alec Morgan, Honorary Senior Lecturer, School of Communication, Society and Culture, Faculty of Arts, Macquarie University.
The course will teach you the basic elements of storytelling and provide you with practical skills to generate ideas and develop compelling stories for the screen. You will gain insight into the three key components that any script needs to succeed: a great concept, compelling characters and a strong structure. Through hands-on experience and short writing assignments, you will discover how to create characters that connect with audiences, how to write dialogue that brings them to life, and how to construct scenes and a structure that engages your audience from the opening titles to final credits.
The course will teach you about ideas that will work on-screen and how to find them. You will also learn the professional secrets of transforming a simple and rough outline into a vivid, exciting final draft. From the beginning of the course, you can bring your own ideas and work on them or you can begin to develop a concept for your script.

DR ALEC MORGAN
Alec is a multi-award-winning filmmaker with productions screened around the world. Documentary credits include the landmark production Lousy Little Sixpence, that first exposed the story of the Stolen Generations, Admission Impossible that investigated the secret history of the White Australia Policy and End of the Earth a history of human impact on Antarctica. He was Creative Head of channel 9s hit history series Our Century and scripted the series Raising the Curtain about Australian theatre. His innovative feature Hunt Angels won 8 awards including 3 AACTA Awards and the prestigious Joan Long Australian film history award. He recently wrote/directed episodes of the factual series Australia In Colour, one of SBS’s highest rating productions. His latest feature documentary Ablaze was made with Indigenous director Tiriki Onus and won the 2021 Victorian Premier’s History Award and is shortlisted for 2 AACTA Awards 2022.
