THE TEMPEST @Mona Vale Performance Space
Event description
We are all visitors to this time, this place. We're just passing through. Our purpose here is to learn, to grow, to love
- and then we return home. Aboriginal Lore
As The Tempest is Shakespeare's last solo dreaming as the great playwright, we're staging his drama as a dialogue between the play's imaginary and human realms. And as our setting is Australia, we're bringing an awareness to the Indigenous idea of The Dreaming as a natural extension to the world of Shakespeare's play (and an extension to his creation of "the stuff that dreams are made on").
In Aboriginal Lore and in William Shakespeare's Tempest, we are all passing through this life and "our purpose here is to learn, to grow, to love, and then we return home". But on this journey through life, will we, like Prospero, discover life's rarer action too?
