The Victorian Substance Use Research Forum (VSURF): Rethinking the governance of ‘young people’ and drugs
Event description
Rethinking the governance of ‘young people’ and drugs
This talk, based on Isabelle’s PhD, will present an analysis of how various iterations of ‘youthful subjects’ are made in Australian drug policies, and how they are governed through concepts of ‘safety’.
The talk will be followed by a Q&A session
Meet the Speaker: Isabelle Volpe
Isabelle Volpe is a PhD Candidate at the Drug Policy Modelling Program team at UNSW Sydney’s Social Policy Research Centre (Australia). Isabelle’s PhD research uses critical social science approaches to explore ways that young people participate in drug policy in Australia. Isabelle is also a Research Officer at the Social Equity Research Centre (RMIT University, Australia), working with local health and community organisations to conduct mixed-methods research on drug-checking design and outputs. She puts this research into practice as the Communications Officer at CheQpoint, a new drug-checking service in Queensland.
