The Waiting Room
Event description
How much of your life have you been waiting?
And more importantly, what have you been waiting for?
Distraction – Disruption – Compliance – Reward
Welcome to The Waiting Room, where you, the audience, share the joy of anticipation, the pleasure of expectation, the thrill of impatience. Awash in video, animation and live experimental music, travel from a state of pleasant expectation through moderate irritation to wretched anxiety. We promise it’s worth the wait.
Created exclusively for the enigmatic Capitol Theatre, the Waiting Room evokes an early 20th Century Picture Palace mutated through a contemporary lens. Part Ted Talk, part evangelical zealotry, The Waiting Room is an expanded theatrical experience recreating archetypal cinematic motifs, drenched in epic surround sound. In this one-night-only event, witness the redefining of the cinematic institution, whilst also being confused as hell.
Experience the rapturous reinvention of the seminal THX Deep Note originally composed in 1983 by LucasFilm sound engineer James ‘Andy’ Moorer. Considered one of the most recognisable sonic identities of the cinematic age, it will be performed live by Melbourne experimental quartet The Overtone Ensemble.
The Waiting Room considers and elaborates on the notion of waiting as an event in itself. A carefully choreographed sequence of surprising, multiform cinematic moments prompting and preparing you for...
Well, that would be giving it away.
The Waiting Room is the latest in a series of sound/Image collaborations between artists Camilla Hannan and Martine Corompt, performed by actor Todd Levi and accompanied by a live musical score by the Overtone Ensemble.
Thank you for waiting.
