The Water We Swim In - Disability Equity Training

This event has passed Register

Event description

Don't miss this rare opportunity to enrol in Arts Access Victoria's renowned disability equity training!

The Water We Swim In is an introduction to disability for people working in the cultural sector. We regularly run this training for Australia's leading arts organisations and government departments.  We would now like to open enrolments to all who wish to be part of this unique, disability-led offering.

The Water We Swim In is a series of cultural context conversations which explore;

  • Recognising and defining ableism
  • The impact of stereotypes and implicit/unconscious bias
  • Brief history of disability, activism and rights
  • Exploring contemporary disability culture

“I unreservedly recommend every organisation undertakes Arts Access Victoria’s Water We Swim In training. This guided conversation helped us as a team to think more deeply about access, and to start to think more big picture in terms of what an accessible future might look like. The materials provided before-hand and the session itself both gave us good food for thought to challenge our thinking and continue to interrogate how we can make our work more equitable into the future.” - Lucy Hamilton, CEO Writers Victoria
