As the days get shorter, you may have noticed that…
your mood feels consistently low.
you don’t feel like doing the things you usually enjoy.
your appetite changes, possibly eating more and craving sweets.
your sleep changes… sleeping more than usual.
you feel tired, like really really tired even though you’re sleeping
you feel (extra) bad about yourself.
The Winter Blues Crew
is a space to learn and practice evidence-informed strategies to navigate the darkest season, together.
So…what’s the winter blues crew all about?
Each session in the series is designed to be educational, experiential and motivational. You’ll have a chance to learn about the science of S.A.D., to set realistic goals for yourself and to stay inspired and connected. While you’ll likely get the most out of attending live, session re-cap emails will be sent to everyone who’s signed up.
Part one: laying the foundations for a better mood this winter
Week 1: What makes us so S.A.D. in the winter? (October 5th) Let’s talk about the risk factors, known causes and likely contributors to seasonal affective disorder, including nutrient deficiencies. You’ll get a list of basic lab tests that you can ask your healthcare provider about.
Week 2: A light box deep-dive (October 12th) Ready to learn more than you probably need to know about safely and effectively using a light box? You’ll also get instructions and recommendations for getting started with your own light box.
Week 3: Vitamins and minerals for mental health (October 19th) This week we’ll talk about how to address the most common nutrient deficiencies that affect mental health. You’ll get an evidence-informed guide to understanding the lab tests recommended in the first week, as well as resources on where to find safe supplements.
Week 4: Feeding your brain (October 26th) This week we’ll talk about foundations of mental health nutrition and how consistent nourishment support your energy and mood this winter. You’ll get resources for trying out some of your own nourishment experiments.
Week 5: How to keep moving your bod when you’re tired and cold (November 2nd) Research shows that exercise is at least as effective as medication (and also makes it work better). So let’s talk about how to find your consistent, joyful physical activity so you can benefit from the mood boost of movement.
Week 6: Putting a plan together, together (November 9th) A week past “falling back” on Daylight Savings, we’ve still got a long, dark road ahead of us. Together we’ll put together our personal mood plans and talk about how the Winter Blues Crew can continue to be a resource all the way until we turn our clocks forward again.
