Theatre Ball 2026: Starry Night

The biggest night on the ANU theatre calendar is back again and better than ever 💫🌟 We’re taking over The Shine Dome and celebrating another fantastic year of student theatre, and everyone is welcome!

Your ticket includes access to an open bar and canapés 🥂 Our theme is Starry Night — get dressed up and grab your sparkliest things, and we’ll see you there!

By attending the 2026 Theatre Ball you agree to adhere to the below Code of Conduct, regardless of whether you are a member of any of the theatre societies; whether you are a current ANU student; and/or whether you have paid for a ticket.

Obligations of the Societies’ Executive Members

Members of the NUTS, Shakesoc, and MTC executives (“society executives”) must take reasonable positive steps to:

• Foster an environment that is free of discrimination, sexual harassment or vilification; and

• Support any person who experiences any such discrimination or abuse.

Society executives and Sober Representatives will be present throughout the event space. You are welcome to approach them as needed.

Obligations of Attendees

All attendees must:

• Treat other attendees and venue staff with courtesy and respect;

• Not engage in conduct that another person would reasonably find offensive, intimidating, humiliating or harassing;

• Not engage in sexual harassment or sexual violence; 

• Not engage in physical violence;

• Not discriminate against any person;

• Not otherwise engage in prohibited conduct; and

• Not cause any damage to the Shine Dome.

Attendees are also expected to participate in the complaints mechanism described below as necessary. If an attendee breaches or is suspected to have breached one of the obligations set out above, they may be asked to leave the event by a society executive.

Complaint Mechanisms

An attendee may lodge a written report with NUTS, Shakesoc, or MTC in relation to:

• Any breach of this Code of Conduct;

• Any grievance with another attendee; or

• Any grievance in relation to the 2026 Theatre Ball.

While reports may be made anonymously, this will limit our ability to follow up on your report.

Where a report is lodged with a society, the receiving society will investigate and respond to the report as soon as reasonably practicable. It will do so confidentially and in line with its existing grievance procedure. The receiving society may liaise with the other two theatre societies if it deems it reasonably necessary to effectively deal with the report.

The receiving society must ensure that any person alleged to have engaged in misconduct is provided with:

• Sufficient information as to the nature of allegations against them; and

• A reasonable opportunity to respond to those allegations.

If the receiving society finds that a breach of this Code of Conduct has occurred, it may take measures including:

• No measure, if the society executive determines that the misconduct is trivial;

• Requesting an apology;

• Giving a person a formal warning;

• Suspending a person’s membership of the society (provided that the society complies with any applicable procedure set out in its Constitution); or

• Any other measure that the society deems reasonably appropriate.

Appeal mechanisms

If a person is dissatisfied with the outcome of a report, they may appeal to the ANUSA Clubs Officer. They must do so within 28 days of being notified of the report’s outcome. 

The receiving society will remain responsible for responding to the report, but it must cooperate with the Clubs Officer and provide information to the Clubs Officer as requested.

Inconsistencies

In the case of any inconsistency between this Code of Conduct and:

• The ANUSA Regulations;

• The ANUSA Constitution;

• The ANUSA Clubs Code of Conduct; 

• The ANUSA Student Code of Conduct; or

• Any of the Societies’ Constitutions,

the latter shall prevail.
