The Fibre Cycle
Description
Seasonal gatherings for learning, making and shared practice.
The Fibre Cycle is an invitation to cultivate the sensitive eyes and attentive hands of the seasonal maker.
It is an opportunity to notice what is plentiful, what is ripe for harvesting, what has fallen or been pruned, and what a particular material might be asking of us. As we move between basket weaving, eco-dyeing, mending, spinning and other earth-based creative processes, we begin to discover the possibilities held within different fibres, and to feel into which materials, techniques and ideas draw us in.
Each season brings its own offerings and limitations, rhythms and invitations. The Fibre Cycle creates space to follow those shifts, turn ideas over in our hands, explore unexpected connections between practices, and allow our making to be guided by curiosity, inspiration and a deepening attentiveness to the living world.
A year of working with fibres
Beginning with an immersive summer weekend in February, The Fibre Cycle unfolds across the year, following the changing seasons and the materials they offer us.
Each season brings together project days, where a particular basket weaving technique or textile process is introduced and explored, and open studio sessions, offering time to continue your work, ask questions, experiment share ideas and make alongside others.
Project days offer focused teaching, demonstrations and time to settle into a process. Open studio sessions provide a more spacious counterpart: a chance to return to something you’ve begun, experiment with an idea, work through a tricky part, or simply give yourself time to play.
You might bring a basket to continue working on, a piece of clothing waiting to be mended, wool ready to spin or materials you’re curious to explore. If you’ve missed a project day, the open studio offers a chance to catch up and receive support. Or you might arrive with no particular plan, allowing the time and company to guide you.
These gatherings are an invitation to work at your own pace, share cups of tea and conversation, and enjoy the quiet companionship of a group of people developing their practices alongside one another. Open studio days are optional, so you can come to as many as your schedule allows.
Alongside this time shared in person, we will also have a WhatsApp group so we can share our weaving progress along the way.

A practice that unfolds over time
There is a particular richness in returning to a shared practice over time. With fibres in hand, the gentle rhythms of making and the changing seasons around us, familiarity grows. Techniques become more intuitive, projects take unexpected turns, and questions emerge that could only come from spending time with a material and living with a process before returning to it.
Gradually, something begins to form around the making itself: a community of people sharing skills, materials, food, ideas and offering one another the natural support that comes from working alongside others.
The Fibre Cycle makes room for this kind of unfolding. Learning extends beyond a single workshop, projects have time to develop, and there is space for both the planned and the unexpected. It is an invitation to deepen your relationship with materials and creative processes, while allowing your own practice to evolve at its own pace.
As we gather and create together, we will also explore respectful fibre harvesting and preparation, developing a more intimate relationship with the materials we work with and the living landscapes from which they come.
Joining The Fibre Cycle
You can join for a single season or for the whole year.
Each seasonal booking includes all project days and open studio sessions offered within that season. Individual sessions are not booked separately, allowing each season to have a sense of continuity and connection. While the project days form the core of each seasonal offering, the open studio gatherings are optional, giving you flexibility in how often you attend.
Alternatively, join for the full year and follow the cycle from summer through spring, building a collection of skills, exploring different materials and allowing your making practice to evolve across the changing seasons.
Whether you are relatively new to basket weaving and textile processes or have an established making practice, there is room to learn, experiment, follow your curiosity and discover where the materials lead you.
A year of earth-based making, seasonal connection and shared practice.
