Event Logistics - What is "Britannia Park"?

We are extremely honoured to be hosted by Girl Guides Victoria at their site of 80 years - Britannia Park.
The site features three main dormitories, two beautifully heritage listed and one rustic log dorm, well kept campground, natural amphitheatre, wooden gazebo on intended party field, plenty of shade and trees, soft grass and garden space, dance hall with exposed beams and a separate showcase hall, outdoor chapel space, fire rings

Question 2

Event Logistics - I have a dietary requirement / allergy, What do I need to do?

Be sure to mention any dietaries while booking your ticket, if you realise after having purchased thats also ok! Just make sure you contact event organisers at least 3 weeks prior to the event via email (hobbithoedown@gmail.com)

Event Logistics - I am driving to the event, is there car parking?

Accepted Answer

Yes there certainly is!

Our bump in schedule is quite particular as there are a few moving parts to getting a couple of hundred people on site in three hours. All cars will be parked to the rear of the event (See bottom left of the event map) for the duration of the event.

Once cars are parked and the game has begun, cars must not be driven around on site.

Emergencies exempt!

Question 4

Event Logistics - I am being dropped off and picked up at the event, What happens then?

Accepted Answer

For cabins, cars will be directed through to the rear car park where your items can be unloaded and your driver can then exit through the rear gate (bottom left of the event map).

For campers, we have a very strict agreement with Girl Guides Victoria in order for us to continue use of the campsites that cars cannot be driven onto the grass. Please ensure volunteers instructions are being followed when dropping off gear from the curb of the campsite, cars can then continue on to the rear car park and exit through the rear gate.

Alternatively, we can have a caddy wagon available at the front gate if you would rather walk your gear onto the site than have your driver come through the site itself.

A final bump in information sheet will be emailed a few weeks prior to the event as well.

Question 5

Event Logistics - Can I take photos / videos during the event?

We would love for attendees to take the opportunity to be present in the game and we've a wonderful photographer that has been hired to capture special moments throughout it - however photography and videos are permitted - so long as you are discreet.

Please be mindful, there may be players present that do not wish to be photographed and if you are filming someone you do not know personally - its not only polite, but important that you ask beforehand.

Children attending the game must not be photographed unless you have spoken with their parents first.

Event Logistics - I'm attending alone - I'm quite nervous I wont know what to do!

Please make sure to utilize our wonderful resources on the website, come along to the pre-event workshops (especially the town hall), and be sure to join the facebook group for your selected hobbit family so you can make friends leading up to the event.

About LARPing - What is a LARP?

LARP = Live action roleplay. A Live action Roleplay game is a game where you are inhabiting a character that you’ve written and created to fit into an environment/ world that has been provided for you.Its a physical version of tabletop roleplay games like dungeons and dragons where you develop a character persona following the outline of the world brief, and create friends and a place for yourself in that world. Almost like Improv theatre!You dont have to have done it before, be any good at an accent or ever even been to a costumed event before, it is for anyone from all walks of life as we create an environment for players to play pretend in for fun

Every year, four lively hobbit families reunite at the County Moot, the junction where the four family shires meet, during the transition from Spring to Summer.This has been a long-loved tradition for generations, as they celebrate the turning of the seasons, the health of family &amp; friends, the glory of bragging rights for their family and all-around showcasing the best of all Hobbitses.It started as a lovely outing between friends and grew to include more family and friends until it was simply too large to be so infrequent in planning. Another problem was, too many Hobbits felt snubbed if they simply weren’t thought of upon invitation.Well, that sorted it!​ It’d have to happen so that everyone would receive an invite, with not too little notice. Since then, the families have become (rivalries aside) fast friends!Follow all their quirky traditions, play good-natured pranks with friends, play party games in the tournament, partake in baking, brewing &amp; crafting showcases, and enjoy leisure time by playing music, napping outdoors or taking tea!

About LARPing - This is my first Larp - What do I need to know?

Very exciting! LARP's are a little different to your usual festival or renaissance fair, there's a little more prep work involved.We suggest you attend as many pre-event workshops as possible, especially the Town Hall where you'll have the opportunity to mingle with other potential new attendees and ask any questions.Joining your family group (see event description for links), you'll have two family heads that will be there to answer any extra questions you might have no matter how silly it might seem. You'll also get a gauge of what your other family members are working on leading up to the event!You can also make use of our Player Resources page on the website where you'll find work sheets on building a character, learning accents, creating a costume and all sorts of fun things.A cabin ticket purchases you a bunk, you will need to bring your own linens/pillows and crockery for meals - sort of like school camp!A camp ticket purchases you a plot in the campsite, you'll need to bring the above plus camping equipment.A packing list will be sent out along with all other necessary documents a few weeks prior to the event so you dont miss anything!

Pre-Event - Must I attend every pre-event workshop?

You do not need to attend every workshop, although Its highly encouraged, The workshops are full of wonderful helpful advice and tips from accent work to costume making and even improv. The most precious thing you'll get out of attending workshops is the act of having met other attendees a few times prior to the event so that you do not feel as though you don't know anyone. If you haven't attended a LARP previously, its well worth prioritizing attending the Town Hall at the very least so any questions you might have burning are answered.

Pre-Event - Will the pre-event workhops be uploaded online?

Our small team of three is busy planning the event itself amongst the workshops, and while we always aim to compile and release the workshop content - some of them are very difficult to capture and are best experienced in person. They also change year to year!Almost all of the information within the workshops is on the website resources page, and any that is not is also delivered at the beginning of the event.
