On Demand NDIS Therapy and Counselling Training: Customised Therapeutic Approaches

EVENT DESCRIPTION 

If you are a psychotherapist, counsellor or social work therapist working in the disability area, you might be curious about how other practitioners in your field are delivering their sessions and what methods they are using in their practice.

In this online on-demand training, we will share our insights and tips from our years of experience as therapists in the NDIS sector. We will explore the ideas to support you in to creating and using your own therapeutic tools and resources to successfully engage, involve and support your clients with psychosocial and intellectual disabilities and neurodiverse needs. We will introduce you to some of the customised therapeutic tools that we have developed and used in our social work therapy or psychotherapy practice, such as specially designed stories, cards, quizzes, audio-visual, creative, and somatic strategies.

1.  Once you register you will receive a confirmation of your registration via email

3. The link that says 'view access info' would then become clearly visible
4. Click on this link and it will lead you to your electronic ticket.
5. Once you access your ticket click the button that says 'Access online event.'
6. This will lead you to a virtual hub which is only accessible to people who have purchased this training
7. From the virtual hub, you will be able to find a link to the training video as well as the information package (this can be downloaded) and the link to our evaluation survey.
8. Once you complete the training and evaluation survey, please contact us via our website www.h-ltherapy.com.au to receive a certificate of attendance.  We will send this to you within 5 working days of receiving your email.

 Providing therapeutic services in the NDIS sector is a specialised and demanding area of practice that requires a lot of skill, knowledge, professionalism and passion to help others. However, this area also has limited guidance and support, which can make it difficult for even the most experienced and dedicated therapists to plan and conduct effective and engaging sessions that help participants achieve their goals, dreams and aspirations. 

Traditional approaches to communication and engagement that work well in other areas, might not be suitable, respectful or appropriate for clients with psychosocial and intellectual disabilities and neurodiverse needs. Therapies that rely on cognitive and behavioural techniques are considered especially harmful for people with autism and other people with neurodivese needs. We will show you how we have adapted some of the existing therapeutic strategies to make them more effective for our clients with different disabilities. 

By the end of the session, you will be able to: 

• Understand the challenges faced by therapists when providing NDIS therapy sessions

 • Demonstrate your knowledge of a variety of engaging, effective, customised tools and practice approaches

 • Apply the tools and practice approaches in your practice in disability area

 • Create and implement your own customised and unique therapeutic approaches to support NDIS participants based on the examples explored in the training session.
