There's an art for that
Event description
Celebrate AusArt Day 2025 at Platform Arts with "There's an Art for That"
Join us for a special after-work viewing of our After Walter Hopps exhibition, where you can explore diverse artworks, meet local artists and support Geelong's local arts ecology by purchasing a new artwork.
Each year, Platform Arts hands over creative control of its curated gallery program to artists living in the Geelong region. Over three days, anyone can bring in new or existing works to be installed on a first-come, first-served basis in a fast-paced curatorial experiment. An open-call exhibition, the overall aim of After Walter Hopps is to fill the gallery from floor to ceiling, wall to wall, in a show that takes shape cumulatively, expansively, and with community at its centre.
This year, as part of the national AusArt Day, we want to fill the offices, boardrooms, conference centres and reception areas of Geelong with art made right here.
Check out our biggest annual group show while enjoying refreshments provided by some of our program partners. Hear directly from local artists and participate in the live auction of three standout pieces from artists who've made their mark on our creative landscape.
In 2025, we want to see Geelong support local artists by buying local art.
This exhibition is inspired by Walter Hopps' 36 Hours project, held in 1978 at the Museum of Temporary Art (MOTA) in Washington, USA. In this seminal curatorial experiment, Hopps accepted—and hung—all work delivered to the gallery by local people within a 36-hour window.
AusArt Day is a nationwide, sector-wide fundraising initiative designed to mobilise artists and arts organisations to raise funds for their work and creative ambitions on a single, powerful day. This unified call to action aims to amplify the visibility of arts philanthropy and inspire greater generosity across the country.
