Women in Resources SA - The rocks that built a State with Dr Suzanne Hunt

Women in Resources South Australia, in collaboration with Women in Mining SA (WIMnet), invites you to an engaging evening with Dr Suzanne Hunt, Director of the Geological Survey of South Australia, as she takes us on a journey through more than 3.4 billion years of South Australia's geological history.

Drawing on the Geological Survey's acclaimed deep-time story of South Australia, Suzanne will explore how ancient mountain-building events, volcanism, sedimentation, rifting and continental collisions shaped the landscapes, provinces and basins we see today. The presentation reveals how South Australia preserves evidence from every geological period, providing an extraordinary record of Earth's evolution and the forces that built our continent.

The session will also examine how these geological events created one of the world's most diverse mineral and energy endowments. From globally significant copper, gold and uranium deposits such as Olympic Dam, Carrapateena and Prominent Hill, to critical minerals, hydrocarbons, groundwater and rare earth elements, Suzanne will highlight how successive geological episodes laid the foundations for South Australia's modern economy and future resource opportunities.

With more than 25 years of leadership experience across mining, energy, oil and gas, Suzanne has held senior executive roles with BHP, IGO, OZ Minerals, Mitsui E&P, Santos, Beach Energy, and AWE. Today, she leads the Geological Survey of South Australia and serves as Chair of Women in Mining SA (WIMnet), helping advance both world-class geoscience and greater diversity, inclusion and leadership across the resources sector.
