Event description
Jointly presented by the Creative Practice Research Group and the Diversities and Social Inclusion Research Group at the University of Technology Sydney, this is a screening and Q&A of the documentary Things I could never tell my mother.
The event will commence with an introduction of the filmmaker, Humaira Bilkis, and film by Dr Imran Firdaus, Assistant Professor of Media and Communication at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) and UTS alumnus.Â
This will be followed by the screening of Things I could never tell my mother - 80 mins
Synopsis of film:
Humaira Bilkis has a problem: after a pilgrimage to Mecca, her mother, who was previously an emancipated poet, has now become devout. The filmmaker has to fight to get her to accept the camera, since her religion forbids images, while hiding her relationship with a Hindu man from Calcutta.
