Things I wish I knew before I started therapy - UNSW Mental Health March 2022
Event description
So i'm ready for, what now?
Sometimes the process of being ready to take the plunge into therapy can be long and challenging, the sense of relief that comes from taking that first step can often make you feel like you can breathe again.
- But how do you know your therapist is right for you?
- What things should you be doing outside your sessions to help the process?
- What if your therapist is deeply underqualified to understand the nuances of your life experiences?
Join currently working psychologists and therapy veterans who are breaking down barriers when it comes to mental health and wellbeing discussing all the things to know starting or before starting therapy.
This event aims for open discussion about:
- How to advocate for yourself in the medical space when your therapist may not be working for you
- Decolonisation practices within therapy
- How to interview your therapist to make sure they are the right one for you
- Key things to consider when choosing your therapist
Mental Health March is created by UNSW Health Promotions Unit and aims to encourage the UNSW community to engage in conversations surrounding the often challenging topics of mental health and wellbeing. The team offer workshops, resources and mental health services to all UNSW Students and Staff.
