Opening Event: The Art of Japanese Tea Ceremony
Are you curious about Japanese tea culture? Join us in experiencing the art of the Japanese tea ceremony.
The Japanese Tea Ceremony, is known as Chado or Sado in Japanese (The Way of Tea). Certified tea teacher Wendy Lin leads a tea ceremony where participants can sample a bowl of matcha at Thirst Exhibition x Sydney Design Week.
The Japanese Tea Ceremony's origins are deeply connected to Buddhism as it was the monks who brought tea culture back to Japan from China. In summary, preparing the powdered tea called Matcha in predefined movements shows the utmost consideration to the guests. When tea practitioner masters the predefined movements, they can enter a mindful meditative state of pure concentration to make a bowl of tea with one’s heart.
Wendy Soen Lin currently teaches once a week from her tea room called “Waseian”.
