About the Event

Cass Biological Station through a fresh artistic lens.

90 years after UC Arts Alumni Rita Angus, Louise Henderson, and Julia Scarvell’s iconic 1936 trip to Cass Biological Station, a new exhibition brings past and present into dialogue. Curated by Lydia Baxendell, Those Days of Clear Blue Skies, pairs historic legacy with innovative contemporary responses from University of Canterbury creatives; Raewyn Martyn, Emily Lazare and Louise Palmer, the exhibition is a powerful reflection on art, ecology, and belonging in Aotearoa.

Opening on site at Cass Station, the show explores landscape, memory, and our evolving relationship with place through painting, sculpture, moving image, and poetry.

A further iteration of the exhibition will be shown at the Aigantighe Gallery, Timaru in 2027.
