Three Witches Oratorio Live by Deneka (with TRANSLUCID)
Description
Deneka brings to you for one night only their second concept album ‘Three Witches’. The oratorio, performed live, tells the tale of three travellers and their journeys to meet and ultimately face three witches.
With humble roots in the styles of Leonard Cohen and The Seekers, the sound is corrupted and the hall flooded with riffage and resonant drones akin to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Glimmers and flutters of pious and tranquil melodies written for churches and chambers will break up the sludge.
Deneka features raamii on bass, Matt Barber on guitar and synth, and Milo Emmanuel on percussion.
Written to lull and shock the listener, Deneka are playing their album adapted for concert from start to finish with only stops for tea along the way.
They are joined by special guests Translucid, a collective of composers whose expertise is spontaneity, who use their multi-instrumentalist sensibilities to take the listener on a sonic journey, adapting and combining their compositional devices to each set and setting they grace. They spontaneously score sophisticated accompaniment to stimuli - from venues acoustics to short films, productions and graphic scores. (See David Lee Sound Gallery, Live the Film, We the Ocean and Rain Mantra, respectively). They have never opened for a rock or folk band, so even they are very curious about what might happen.
Hold on to your socks, friends.
This performance will take place on the stolen lands of the Wadawurrung People. Deneka, Translucid and CoupdeCloudRecordings acknowledge these people as rightful owners of the region, and we pay respects to all First Nations' Elders past, present and emerging. We believe in land rights, human rights, and treaty. Always was, Always will be, Aboriginal Land.
