Event description

Join fellow community organisers from across Greater Melbourne in reflecting on the opportunities for thriving local economies and how these can be brought to life.

Regen Melbourne is pleased to host a workshop with world-renowned local economies expert and founder and director of Local Futures, Helena Norberg-Hodge. Local Futures is an international non-profit organisation dedicated to renewing ecological and social well-being by strengthening communities and local economies.

Local Futures have set an inspiring vision:

We envision a localized future where most of our food comes from nearby farmers who are a part of our community and who ensure food security year round. Where money we spend on everyday goods continues to recirculate in the local economy, building community prosperity along the way. Where multinational businesses and banks adhere to the rules of society – not the other way around. Where local businesses are thriving and multiplying, thereby providing ample, meaningful livelihoods for everyone.

As we continue to imagine this vision for Greater Melbourne, and acknowledge that communities are working hard to deliver on this challenge, we invite community organisers from across our city to come together and learn from Helena as well as from each other to give us the momentum we need to persist.

If you are a community organisers based in Greater Melbourne, please join us at the Abbotsford Convent as we get to know each other, get to know Helena and get to know the challenges of our work and how to overcome these obstacles.
