Why Support Cultivating Connections MT?
Cultivating Connections Montana’s work is about ‘Building Community Through Food’. Acting as a catalyst, our goal is to empower youth, grow food and share knowledge, foster well-being, provide mentorship & job training, and bring people together through education, participation, and celebration. In a world where there is so much to disagree about, food is something we can all agree on, and it’s a place to start a new conversation.
We say ‘Change Your Food, Change the World.’
*We offer paid, hands-on engaged learning internships for teens in organic farming, cooking, and serving the community.
*We sell produce By-Donation at Farmers' Market, helping to get Montana foods to people of all income levels. In our commercial kitchen, teen interns and staff work together to produce salads and soups for donation to the Food Bank. In addition, they produce other ready-to-eat foods using and featuring Montana-grown ingredients, to sell at our Farmstand, Farmer’s Markets, and for donation.
*Our unique ‘Mayday! Gardens’ program, now in its sixth season, has gotten nearly 1000,000 free vegetable seedlings into gardens and yards around Western Montana. Using Montana grown seeds, Mayday! Gardens offers opportunities for school kids and community members to participate in the seeding and care of the plants. Its Mayday! Gardens, as in Mayday! Mayday! We all need to grow food-
*We host over 500 local school kids each spring and fall as well as multiple different homeschool groups where Farmers Laura and Henry share their ‘Tour-Taste-and Task’ format for Farm visits and tours.
*CCMT acts as a model for Montana Agritourism by using our Farm-Classroom to engage and educate.
*Special Abilities Camp is our day camp designed especially for kids on the autism spectrum. We pair our teen interns with kids and teens on the spectrum for an afternoon of adventure on the farm- petting animals, boating on the pond, visiting plants, games, snacks, and time to just Be. Special Abilties Camp is a collaboration between HEARTism and CCMT and 2024 is our 12th year of Special Abilities Camp on the farm.
*CCMT engages the broader community through events such as Farm Fun Day, Feast in the Field, Brunch and Yoga, Harvest Fest, Volunteer Day Thursdays, Earth Day Volunteering and more.
*CCMT runs a FarmStand that is stocked with our own produce and products as well as a growing variety of Montana ingredients and food products, an apothecary of self-care products, seeds, and more. The FarmStand features about 4 products from each producer, allowing for a fun variety of Montana goods. All profits from sales directly support the CCMT general operating budget, as we work to create a long term financial backbone for the organization.
*In 2023 we built a Learning and Sensory Garden that invites people of all abilities and ages to smell, taste, touch, and experience.
*In spring of 2024 we purchased and erected a new events tent that provides us with nearly 2000 square feet of shade right with unobstructed views of the very middle of the farm and all that’s going on.
*In March of 2024 we introduced our new Heritage Skills Workshop series. We’ve got over 30 workshops scheduled for this year- from Sourdough Baking to Vermicomposting, Willow Basketry to Backyard Chicken or Pig Butchering, Soap Making to Canning, Old German Easter Eggs and Straw Stars, Seed Saving, Plant Identification, Fermenting, and more.
Cultivating Connections invites YOU to get involved and participate in community, food, and farming! Change Your Food, Change the World!
The Cultivating Connections (CCMT) Farm-Classroom is located at Homestead Organics Farm, which was started in 1999 by Laura Garber. It began as an experiment in Organic food growing, and over time the farm has developed a strong educational focus and began hosting workshops, classes, and youth at the farm. CCMT was born to house these programs, as we have shifted away from a transactional model into a relational one: one that prioritizes creating a space for everyone to learn, grow, and share.
Our good works need your financial support.
Please help us reach our Fun-raising goal of $20,000!
