Timber Sash Window Restoration Workshop.
Event description
If you own a heritage home or old building, or you're considering buying one, then chances are they'll have timber windows.
Timber windows can remain usable for hundreds of years provided they are maintained.
We specialise in the restoration of antique windows, included double hung box sash windows. In this workshop session, we'll show you the components that make up these windows and discuss how they can be taken apart. You'll learn about all the moving parts and how these can be repaired or replaced. We'll look at how the individual glass panes are held in and you'll practice replacing glass using traditional linseed oil putty.
Well also cover the correct placement, usage and types of paints needed during the restoration process.
Aside from enjoying the practical and informative session, you'll have learned the skills and and take home the knowledge necessary for maintaining and restoring your old timber windows into the future.
This is a half day workshop for beginners and is suitable for adults of all ages.
The session is hosted by Jason Kemmis who is a professional restorer of antique furniture and heritage homes.
Our workshops are held in and around The Old South Arm School built in 1880!
