Auckland’s Time of Use Pricing
Description
What if we could significantly reduce rush hour congestion by charging people for driving into Auckland’s city centre during peak hours? It’s called Time of Use Charging, and it has worked in cities overseas.
Successful cities attract people and that also attracts cars. However, it’s costing the Auckland economy billions each year, a staggering $2.6 billion - and it’s keeping us away from friends, whānau and places we need to be.
Time of Use Charging could make a noticeable difference to traffic volumes across the city. But is it really necessary? Is it just the cost of doing business in a successful city? Does it make it harder for those who depend on the car and have little viable alternative because our planning still promotes the segregation of land uses and separation from transport?
This events is a chance to discuss Auckland’s proposals for Time of Use Pricing and how this should be part of a new narrative about what we collectively want Auckland to look and feel like for all citizens of the city.
