TiPS - Hand the Work over to the Adolescents!
Event description
Laurie Ewert-Krocker joins us to discuss that at the 12-18 age level, it is easy for adults to forget that the developmental goal of a Montessori education is for the adolescent to experience independence—independent action, independent thinking, and independent contribution to the social organization of the community. We will discuss how adults fall back on thinking of themselves as “teachers” and experts who need to control the work and activities of the adolescent to ensure their “success.” This session will serve as a reminder of what it means to “guide” and partner with adolescents in their development, and it will offer some strategies for framing that partnership with support and independence in mind.
