Toad Hall 50th Anniversary and Graduation Dinner
Event description
Toad Hall's annual End of Year and Graduation Dinner will this year mark the 50th anniversary of the Hall's opening in 1974. Since its opening as the University's first self-catered Hall of Residence for mainly undergraduate students beyond first year, the community and character of the Hall has developed and changed, though what the Hall's architect, the late John Andrews AO, referred to as its "social impact" remains as one of connection, engagement, friendship and the free transaction of ideas. Toad Hall is now largely a community of postgraduate and international students, with many hundreds of alumni living and working across the globe!
Our special guest will be ANU Vice-Chancellor Distinguished Professor Genevieve Bell AO. We will be joined by other guests, including University Librarian Roxanne Missingham OAM ('Roxy' McAndrew), one of the first residents of Toad Hall. Her Block was D3 and the photo is of the first 'D3 High Dinner' held towards the end of 1975! (thank you first resident Dr James Coughlan).
We will recognise our leadership teams, and farewell those who will be graduating/leaving. Our numbers are limited, but we would love to be joined by any alumni. Somewhat ironically, the dinner will be held at Bruce Hall, one of the Halls that the first residents were seeking to move from to live in the new Toad Hall! It is, however, a great venue!!
