MLI is hosting a multicultural climate showcase + meet the CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse) climate leaders night! 

Join us for an evening of celebration, connection, and collaboration, featuring:

  • A screening of CALD-led, community-powered climate action.
  • Celebration of culturally diverse climate leaders – meet them and hear their inspiring stories firsthand!
  • A panel discussion with CALD climate leaders, exploring the power of diversity and how we can work together to create a better future.
  • Opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals passionate about diverse, equitable and inclusive climate action.

Who are the leaders?

Keynote speakers: Ardra Meletath and Anil Babu

Ardra Meletath is a Dubai-raised Indian who now calls Sydney home. She is passionate about making climate action practical and accessible through the power of communication. With a background in Environmental Management and Public Relations, she’s worked in research, academia, and philanthropy. Currently, she helps businesses navigate sustainability as a Climate Change Consultant at KPMG.

Anil is an Indian origin Climate Change and Sustainability Services Consultant at EY Sydney, part time research assistant at UNSW and the project lead of the student-led UNSW Bush Tucker Trail Project.With an educational background in Environmental Management and Accounting and Finance, Anil is focused on finding biodiversity regenerative solutions through strategic and collaborative partnerships.

Manjot Kaur: Indian (Punjabi) climate activist and community organiser who played a key role in organising the first-ever School Strikes 4 Climate in the Sydney region.Manjot will be speaking on South Asian organising in greater Sydney

Bedron Moses: Bedron is a cimate champion and community organiser, he is the Project Coordinator at Arab Council Australia and the Western Sydney Organiser at Nature Conservation Council NSW. Bud will be speaking on exciting an collaborative initiative from Arab Council Australia and Nature Conservation Council, 'Tabiea' (Translates to nature). He will also be speaking about organising with Arabic-speaking communities. 

Erika Aligno: Erika Aligno is a Filippino-Australian Rising Tide activist, Deep Ecology co-facilitator, and UNSW research & teaching assistant. She will share how the three aspects of The Great Turning can provide us a clear and actionable framework to co-create and participate in grassroots solutions, built on our inherent cultural strengths.

Rataj Abdullah: Rataj is an Eritrean young climate activist and artist. She will be speaking on youth organising and the role of storytelling in climate spaces. 

Dr Yolanda Waters: Dr. Waters is a Chinese-Australian climate communications specialist and the Founder and CEO of the climate organisation, 'Divers for Climate'. Yolanda will be speaking about multicultural climate research, as well as her experience as a multicultural climate leader. 


What to expect - 

5:00pm: Doors open 

5:30pm:Multicultural Climate Showcase + Meet the leaders

6:30pm: Panel discussion - “What does it mean to be multicultural/CALD in the Australian Climate Movement”?

7:00pm: Connect and chat! Food will be provided\

8:00pm: Wrap up
