Event description

In memory of the life and work of Bhagat Puran Singh, 33 years from his passing.

Join us for a community film screening and conversation that connects coal projects in Australia, climate impacts in Punjab, and our shared responsibility to act with care.

سانجھ: کہانیاں، ہوا تے زمین | ਸਾਂਝ: ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ, ਹਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ

Together, we’ll watch the powerful short film Voices for the Valley, which follows Manjot Kaur, a young climate leader raised in Mudgee—a region on Wiradjuri land where locals have resisted coal for over two decades—and rooted in Punjab, where her ancestral village is facing heatwaves, drought, and ecological breakdown.

Through film, stories, chai and conversation, we’ll explore what it means to protect land, honour relationships, and reimagine seva in a time of climate crisis.
In the spirit of saãjh—shared existence—this event invites us to pause, listen, and notice the patterns between seemingly distant places: Wollar, Mudgee, Punjab.

After the screening, we’ll open a warm, welcoming space for storytelling, reflection, and collective action. Inspired by the life and seva of Bhagat Puran Singh Ji.

We’ll offer:

  • Screening of Voices for the Valley (20 mins) 🎥

  • A simple guide and template to make submissions opposing a major coal project

  • The chance to write or call your local MP or Minister Scully on the spot

  • Stories of youth leadership and seva in disaster response—and how we shift from reaction to prevention

  • A community WhatsApp group to stay connected and support each other

  • Opportunities to build confidence in political engagement—especially for those new to it

We invite parents, youth, elders, volunteers, artists, sports teams, and changemakers across our community.

☕ Chai, Pakoras, Sweets Provided
