2025 Arts Workshops - Creative Copyright and Intellectual Property, AI, and Resale Royalties: Understanding Your Creative Copyright, with Karen Workman from the New Zealand Copyright Commission

Wednesday 06 August
5pm - 7pm
Toi Auaha, 5 Worcester Boulevard

Free to attend - register by booking a free ticket through this Humanitix page

Topic: The issue of using artist’s work without permission or compensation is an important and evolving topic, especially with the development of artificial intelligence. If you have questions about your intellectual property rights, copyright, AI and the creative arts sector, or changes to the Artists Resale Royalty Act, come along to this free workshop by Karen Workman from Copyright Licensing New Zealand. We’ll explore New Zealand Copyright law, learn about your creative rights and how to avoid misunderstandings, infringements and confusion. This workshop is filled with helpful resources and expert advice, so come along and bring your questions to what promises to be a valuable discussion.

Workshop schedule: Doors will open at 4.45pm. The workshop will start at 5pm sharp and take 60-90 minutes. If you cannot attend the whole workshop, you are welcome to come for as much as you can. Pēpi and tamariki are always welcome to attend with you!

On the first Wednesday of every month, Toi Ōtautahi hosts free arts development workshops for artists and arts organisations. Want to know more, go to: https://toiotautahi.org.nz/

Karen Workman is part of the Copyright Licensing New Zealand team and is focused on the development of the Creative Rights Education programme. She has years of experience in education and arts-based organisations, and was most recently in Los Angeles, where she was knee-deep in the film industry. Karen has a particular heart for helping creative people on their life journeys. When not in the office, Karen can be found sipping tea with friends and looking for the next plays, exhibitions, books and movies to enjoy.
