Event description

Make your own wildlife home ~ bee & insect hotel or bird box ~ at Tomaree's Picnic for Nature

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Tomaree National Park

Would you like to encourage wildlife into your backyard?

Our yards can be great habitat, and important stepping stones or links for wildlife ~ birds, bees, butterflies, bugs and beetles ~ connecting up plots of bush from the national park through backyards and linking to your bush reserve.

On this activity we'll make some insect hotels and bird boxes ~ with thanks to the much appreciated support of the Port Stephens Woodworkers, and the sponsorship of Port Stephens Packing via Plastic Free Port Stephens, you can make your own wildlife home at an incredibly low cost.

Choose your wildlife home (as pictured above), between ...

- insect hotel $6* (pictured in header)

- kiddies wildlife box, $5*

- smaller bird box $8*, suitable for a smaller bird such as a White-throated Treecreeper

- larger bird box $12*, suitable for a larger bird such as an Eastern Rosellas (pictured in header)

*Humanitix charges a small fee which funds education projects for the world's disadvantaged children.
$5 + $0.63 through to $12 + $0.80. If you need to cancel your order, this fee will not be refunded.

Choose your preferred time to register between 10am and 2pm when booking:

10.00am, 10.30am, 11am, 11.30am, 12midday, 12.30am, 1pm, 1.30pm.

When booking, each order is limited to 1 wildlife home per person, and up to 4 homes per order. Each time slot has a maximum of 4 wildlife homes with 4 different people. For families or groups with more than 4 people, please make another order however it will need to be at a different time. Not that some time slots may already have an order.

Children U/10 must be supervised by a parent or guardian, and U/18 a parent or guardian at the site.

We’ll be providing more information about the best locations for placing your insect hotels and bird boxes ~ how to attach, nest box materials, what you need in your backyard and what else you can do to create wildlife homes in your back yard.

This activity is brought to you by a collaboration of * Woodworkers Port Stephens * Port Stephens Packing * Friends of Tomaree National Park, a group of the National Parks Association (Hunter Branch), and  * EcoNetwork Port Stephens.
