Senator Tony Sheldon invites you to a community town hall meeting to learn more about the Voice referendum. Together we will talk about why constitutional recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through a Voice to Parliament is a crucial step in the walk towards reconciliation. Attendees will have an opportunity to share their feedback and learn about ways to engage in the local community.

We will be joined by special guests Kyra Galante and Nardi Simpson.

Kyra Galante has over 20 years’ experience delivering Indigenous community engagement, recruitment and mentoring strategies in civil construction and mining. In over two decades, Kyra has increased Indigenous employment across those sectors through policy advice, program management, community engagement and candidate selection.

Nardi Simpson is a Yuwaalaraay storyteller from north west NSW freshwater floodplains. She is founding member of Indigenous band Stiff Gins and an accomplished composer, playwright, educator and public speaker. Her debut novel Song of the Crocodile was long listed for the 2020 Stella Prize, Miles Franklin Award and was winner of the ALS Gold medal.

This event will be facilitated by former broadcaster and journalist Francis Leach, known for co-hosting the breakfast show with David Schwarz on 1116 SEN sports radio in Melbourne and being a regular panellist on ABC TV’s The Offsiders and Ten’s The Project.

The voice was a key ask from the Uluru Statement from the Heart which was an invitation to all Australians to recognise the ancestral ties that have existed for over 60,000 years and empower all First Nations people to have a Voice in their future.
