Event description

For close to a decade, the Not-So-Big Band has been entertaining audiences while providing a fantastic proving ground for up-and-coming Melbourne based musicians. Originally setup by local arranger Toshi Clinch as an educational opportunity for promising students, the band pairs students with a number of professional musicians to give them a realistic experience of the Melbourne music scene. The band has now gone on to perform hundreds of sold out shows and has a diverse range of material that blends classic jazz with modern themes from recent movies and musicals, putting their own spin on things and making the music more suitable for jazz loving audiences. So come check out the NSBB and support the next generation of Australian musicians for their first ever appearance at the Wangaratta jazz festival!
The NSBB is a nine piece ensemble featuring a horn section of two trumpets, trombone, alto sax, and tenor sax, as well as a rhythm section of guitar, piano, bass, and drums.

Cameron McIntyre has returned home to Melbourne with the ambition to create and lead the city’s most danceable jazz band. The Greater Melbourne Tweed and Breakfast Society Orchestra is an ever-changing collective of Australian artists all of which are hell-bent on perpetuating and celebrating the very beginnings of American jazz music. While this band well-versed in

the New Orleans jazz style, we pay particular attention to the Australian composers of this music, with a focus on encouraging emerging writers to contribute new works centred in the traditional jazz idiom.

Featuring a formidable front line comprised of Brennan Hamilton-Smith on alto sax, Jon Hunt on clarinet, and Tom Panckridge on trombone, as well as a rhythm section powerhouse comprised of Rowan Pattison on guitar, Patrick Britton on piano, Robbie Finch on bass, and Gideon Marcus on drums.

It is this ensemble’s vision to bring about a resurgence of jazz music as a collective, shareable experience. A music that is accessible to anyone, and can be enjoyed by everyone.

Genre - Jazz/New Orleans Trad Jazz
