Tour of De Stijl House

A tired Ashmore house has been turned, quite literally, upside down. Through a close collaboration between the owner and HHH Architects, De Stijl House moves its kitchen, dining and living spaces upstairs into the tree canopy, beneath a cathedral ceiling that opens to an elevated north-eastern terrace.

The home is designed around its climate. The western façade has no windows, shutting out the harsh afternoon sun, while wide openings to the north and east fill the interior with light. On the ground floor, the bedrooms open onto private garden courtyards, and a bespoke screen upstairs filters breezes and casts dappled light across the main outdoor living space.

Named for the owner's lifelong love of art, the house showcases their collection alongside built-in furniture inspired by the De Stijl movement and proportioned using the Fibonacci sequence. The partnership worked so well that the owner bought the neighbouring property to start the process again.
