Tour of The Pink Hotel
Description
Originally built in the 1950s as the Ocean View Motel, The Pink Hotel Coolangatta is a standout example of mid-century modern architecture, designed by Scottish-born Brisbane architect George Rae. In 2018, the motel is transformed into The Pink Hotel, retaining its original low-rise form, breezeways and street-facing profile while layering in bold colours, mural art and neon signage.
On this tour, visitors explore select guest rooms, visit the rooftop bar Santeria with views over Greenmount Beach and Snapper Rocks, and see custom art by local creatives inspired by the building's beachside history. Chris Amiet, Senior Heritage Advisor at the City of Gold Coast, guides the tour, sharing how the building's original bones were preserved beneath its pastel pink façade.
