Description

Calling all queers! Come touch and learn about vibrators and other toys that are particularly great for various types of queer and trans sex (even if they aren’t designed for us)! Bring me your questions!

I’ll be addressing common questions like:

  • What toys can we use between bodies to amp up scissoring/tribing/frotting?

  • Do strapless strap-ons actually work? How can you use them easier?

  • What’s the difference between air pulsation and suction and who are they particularly good for?

  • What toys can I use externally inside my harness that won’t bang against my pelvic bone?

  • What harnesses are best for different types of sex?

  • What lubes are best for fisting?

  • Are there toys that help with dysphoria? (yes...see you in class!)

  • Are there toys that are Disability friendly? (yes...)

  • Are there toys that are Fat friendly? (yes...)

  • How can I use the toys I already have in more creative ways?

  • How can I use the toys I already have in more gender/body affirming ways?

  • I have pain and/or nervousness with penetration (whatever hole), but I’m interested in it. Are there best ways to start exploring? (yes...)

  • I feel like we’ve gotten stuck in a top/bottom dynamic. One or more of us is interested in expanding that. How do we start?

  • My body has changed on HRT (hormones). How do I know what will work for me now?

  • What are the best toys to easily integrate into how we are already having sex?

  • How do I choose a toy that’s more likely to increase pleasure for me or a partner’s body specifically?

  • What toys will help me last longer?

Discover new ways to enjoy toys and what toys will work better for your body and your partners’ bodies. You’ll learn various ways to use each toy both flying solo and with partners as we cover the anatomy of pleasure, toy materials, maintenance, and other considerations so you’ll be sure to get the best “bang” for your buck and not waste money on a toy that’s less likely to work for your body. You'll then have the opportunity to buy toys after class since Jay is bringing the sex shop to the club!

What to expect from this workshop:

This is an educational and experiential class, but it is not a sexual or skills-practice class. Folks will have the opportunity to touch toys, lubes and harnesses. The focus of the content will be on learning about toys, anatomy, pleasure, techniques, and communication tips for navigating sex play with toys. Participants will be able to opt in and out of any exercises or offerings.

Who is this workshop for:

Anyone interested in how toys can enhance solo, partnered, and/or group sex (between people of all genders and genitals!) This class is focused on queer and trans sex. Workshop tickets are sold individually, and each person attending will need a ticket. You may attend solo or bring your partner(s) and friend(s)!

Meet your Educator!
Jay (they/he) from
Sex.EdWithJay, has been an educator for the past 5 years at Lotus Blooms, a health and education-based sex shop in Old Town, Alexandria that centers and celebrates queer and trans joy. Jay is passionate about helping visitors make informed decisions and feel more connected to their bodies and desires. Previously, Jay worked as a DC-licensed massage therapist (BodyworkwithJ) practicing consent-based bodywork, with a sliding scale prioritizing QTBIPOC. Jay loves any excuse to dance, eat, drink, travel, and spend time with his queer community, his cat, Little Boop, and the ocean.

Space logistics, accessibility, and vibe?

This space available is on the second floor of As You Are, accessible via one flight of stairs. Apologies if this makes the event inaccessible for you! Jay also teaches this class in Old Town, Alexandria for Lotus Blooms on the ground level.

You will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with fellow attendees before the event starts, during intermission, and after the class if you wish, but the class itself is not a mixer. Make it a friend or partner date night - please enjoy AYA and come early or stay late for a drink and food (alcoholic and N/A options available). If you drink before the class, please just do so responsibly so that you can show up in a respectful, learning mindset! Doors open at 6:30. Class starts at 7 and technically ends at 9. Jay will be available till 9:30 for class-related questions and selling toys!
