    Sharpen your skills and knowledge of drawing with professional visual artists Thomas Readett and Alex Beckinsale. Suitable for primary and secondary teachers who are novice or skilled artists, this workshops will explore traditional and digital drawing techniques to help you bring your students’ ideas to life. 

    In this workshop, you will learn how to:

    • Different ways to approach traditional and digital drawing techniques. 
    • How to use compositional techniques to draw the eye. 
    • Tips to support nervous students and build confidence. 
    • How to structure drawing activities for your students that will guarantee success. 


    Whether you join us online or in-person you can expect an engaging hands-on experience with time to connect with your colleagues and to have your questions answered by professional teaching artists with real-world experience. 

    A certificate of professional learning will be provided. This professional learning workshop will support you in demonstrating the following AITSL Australian Professional Standards for Teacher: 3.2, 6.2, 7.1, 7.4


    Workshop Teaching Artists 

    Thomas Readett 
     
    Thomas Readett is an artist and Ngarrindjeri man who was born and raised in Kaurna Country where he continues to practice and live. As a highly skilled and trained visual artist, Thomas predominantly creates large scale commissions, artistic projects, exhibitions and resources all from within his company TR Visual Arts. However, his practice spans drawing, painting, video, music, advocacy and education 

    He has worked in education roles supporting galleries and organisations and as a freelancer to create authentic and engaging Aboriginal art resources. His most recent position as First Nations Academic Officer has seen him develop a new course for Adelaide Central School of Art called ‘First Nations Narratives’, in collaboration with Dr. Nerina Dunt.

    Alex
    Beckinsale 

    Alex Beckinsale is an early career artist whose work is inspired by strange narratives, folklore, and popular culture. She focuses on figurative art and portraiture, often constructing otherworldly and mysterious situations in her work. Alex is currently a drawing lecturer at the Adelaide Central School of Art.

    This Carclew in Schools program is supported by the South Australian Government through the Department for Education. This event is generously subsided for Department for Education teachers.  

    Bookings are prioritised for teachers employed by the Department for Education and must be made with your Department for Education email address. 

    Places may be offered to Independent and Catholic Education teachers. To be on the waitlist, please book using your school email and select  ‘Wait List: Independent/CESA Teachers’ ticket.  We will be in touch if places become available.
