Join editor Lauren Mitchell from UQP (University of Queensland Press) for a crash-course on traditional publishing in Queensland. Understand what traditional publishing looks like on a local level by getting to know your local industry. Ask your burning questions and learn where you story belongs in the Queensland publishing and bookselling scene.

Learning outcomes

In this workshop, participants will:

• Get to know the Queensland traditional publishing scene.
• Distinguish trade publishing on a local level from trade publishing on a national level.
• Learn the processes involved in traditional publishing.
• Gain insight into Queensland publishing from a working industry professional.
• Understand the realities of bookselling on a local level.

Format

This is an in-person workshop with a focus on publishing industry; it will be held at State Library of Queensland, and is suitable for writers and book-lovers of all levels.

About Lauren

Lauren Mitchell is an editor at University of Queensland Press and has worked in-house and in a freelance capacity with a range of publishers and journals including Major Street, Griffith Review and Overland. Lauren holds Bachelors of Arts (English Literature) and Journalism from the University of Queensland and a Master of Arts (Writing, Editing and Publishing), also from UQ. She is currently based in Magan-djin.
