Event description

...when the Bunggaliyarra stopped at Mirrdawaadnha hill to weave a mandanhu (fishing net) from yalhirri grass. When they saw the Marrga men, the sisters fled, dragging their net behind them.

As they escaped, the Bunggaliyarra created and named many things, leaving a trail of knowledge weaved through baskets, string and fishing nets.

Join visiting artist Fiona Gavino and Juluwarlu artist Rhani to learn the ancient craft of making string from Yalharri grass native to Yindjibarndi Country. Experience this meaningful cultural practice connected to the Bunggaliyarra story and create your own handmade string using traditional techniques and materials.
