Trans/generational Developments in Australasian Gender Research
Event description
Trans/generational Developments in Australasian Gender Research
You are invited to attend a discussion between Tommy Hamilton (they/he) and Dr Vanessa Cameron-Lewis (she/they) on the trans/generational politics of gender across Australasia. The conversation will address how conceptualisations of and practices around gender have shifted in communities over the past three to four decades and how this impacts research, resources, education, and dialogue. This is important for thinking about how our research can be at risk of miscommunication across generational divides and/or re-entrenching transnormativities in communities. This discussion will be chaired by Dr Ampersand (And) Pasley, the Gender, Sexualities and Cultural Studies Co-convener, and audience members are invited to contribute questions and comments throughout and following the discussion.
Tommy Hamilton (they/he) is a Pākehā, genderqueer masc, endosex, able-bodied and neuro-typical person. Tommy is a narrative therapist working across rainbow and mainstream services, SOGIESC community development, and sustainability in Aotearoa/New Zealand.
Dr Vanessa Cameron-Lewis (she/they) has been a sexuality educator for twenty years and recently completed her doctorate at the University of Auckland, which considered, amongst other things, how to decolonise sexualities education in Aotearoa. Vanessa has been a policy analyst, university lecturer and researcher, program developer and facilitator on all things sexual.
