Transfer Paper for Clay Pottery with Maddy

Event description

Working with clay and learning some pottery skills is always fun. In this class we'll be making pieces from air-dry clay specifically to decorate and customise with unique designs from transfer papers.

Transfer paper works a bit like temporary tattoos - keeping them wet with a cloth until the design transfer over. While transfer paper works on fired ceramics (bisqueware) it transfers even better while clay pieces are still wet.

You might like to make a small dish or a plate, a vase, or even something sculptural, and keep in mind that the smoother and more even the surface the better!

There are dozens of fun transfer designs to choose from as well as some traditional-style ceramic decorative motifs.

What will we cover?

In this class you will learn:

  • How to work with air-dry clay to make a piece suitable for use with transfer paper
  • How to use tissue transfer paper with wet pieces, and tips for working with dried (bisque) ceramics too
  • Special considerations, and other insider tips and tricks
  • How to paint the pottery once dried
  • How to seal it so it last longer

    What should I bring?

All materials are provided, but please bring something to transport your pottery home safely. A tupperware container and a spare bag would be perfect!

As a musician, these wonky and not-so-wonky creations often find their way onto stages around Melbourne.

Maddy also enjoys carving and printing lino cuts, paper collage, and combining the two.
