This webinar will explore the journey of the Lived Experience Legal Assistance Change Project a sector-first initiative reshaping how Western Australia’s legal assistance services are designed, delivered, and evaluated. Recognising that meaningful reform must centre the voices of those most affected, the project has strengthened CLWA’s capacity to work alongside people with lived experience from appointing its first Lived Experience Worker in 2023 to expanding scope and impact in 2024.

Participants will gain insight into why this work matters, what has been achieved so far, and the lessons learned that apply not only to the legal sector but also to the broader community services sector. The session will share practical approaches to capacity-building, inclusive co-design, and embedding lived experience into organisational practice, offering inspiration and guidance for any organisation seeking to build truly client-centred services.

Chelsea McKinney

Chelsea (she/her) has a passion for social justice and leads Community Legal WA's work in sector development and advocacy, with a focus on better laws and policies, and a strong, high quality and sustainable CLC sector. Chelsea believes in the power of working together and enabling people with Lived Experience to contribute their voice and expertise to address systemic problems, so that we can all access the resources and services essential to enable our needs and human rights to be met.

Rhian Chin

Rhian (she/her) leads sector development at Community Legal WA, working to strengthen collaboration and build workforce capacity and capability across community legal services. With a background in aged care advocacy, quality, and community development, she’s passionate about quality, people-first solutions that make a lasting difference.

Rochelle Allison-Moore

Rochelle (she/her) leads the Lived Experience project at Community Legal WA, where she works alongside people to make sure their voices shape the services and systems that impact their lives. With her own lived experience and years spent supporting people in crisis, she’s passionate about creating approaches that are practical, compassionate, and truly responsive to community needs.
