Transitions talks by Architects Declare - #4 Designing with Bamboo

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Since the beginning in 1972, House of Bamboo have been firm believers in the power of bamboo to revolutionise architecture and interior design for the better. Natural resources, especially timber, are disappearing at an alarming rate but bamboo is the fastest growing material on the planet, ready to harvest in 5 to 7 years as opposed to 30 to 80 years for trees. It is self-regenerating, produces 35% more oxygen and captures up to 4 times more carbon than the same amount of trees. Hear from bamboo and natural materials expert Jennifer Snyders, to discuss the potential to build a sustainable future in Australia, utilising native bamboo species, and creating a true circular economy.

With the goal to support sustainable construction, restore our environment and improve world biodiversity, Jennifer Snyders will discuss her work in bamboo research, regenerative projects and opportunities for this material to become a leading 'green' material in Australia. Jennifer's mission is to establish a bamboo industry in Australia that complements traditional timber production. She aims to bring added benefits, such as mitigating erosion, rejuvenating soil and waterways, and bolstering rural economies with a sustainable supply.
