Our speaker:

Hon Rita Saffioti MLA | Deputy Premier, Treasurer, Minister for Transport and Major Infrastructure, Sport & Recreation

Rita was elected to State Parliament in 2008 and joined Mark McGowan's Shadow Cabinet team in 2013.

Following the Labor election victory in March 2017, she was appointed the Minister for Transport and Planning, overseeing the delivery of METRONET, one of Western Australia’s most transformational transport infrastructure projects.

After Labor was re-elected in March 2021, Ports was added to Rita's portfolio, giving her the opportunity to deliver a more integrated approach to transport, planning and ports, and responsibility for planning a future Outer Harbour.

The resignation of then Premier Mark McGowan in 2023, saw Rita was officially appointed Deputy Premier and Treasurer, and after the 2025 election, she added the portfolio of Sport and Recreation to her responsibilities.

Her current portfolio responsibilities include Treasurer, Minister for Transport and Major Infrastructure and Sport and Recreation.
