    Event description

Many people receiving aged care services have experienced trauma, loss, and grief at some point in their lives, which can impact both workforce members and older people in their care.
Understanding the impacts of trauma and enabling the provision of trauma-informed care is critical for wellbeing and creating an environment where people feel safe and healing can be fostered.
Learn practical skills to recognise the presence of trauma symptoms in clients and ensure the care you provide encourages wellbeing and does not cause further trauma, harm or distress.

    Learning outcomes

    • Develop a knowledge of the impact of trauma
    • Outline trauma-informed care and how to incorporate a trauma –informed care framework in services for older adults
    • Identify strategies to engage with people affected by trauma and recognise signs of trauma in older people
    • Learn how you and your team can meet the requirements under the new Strengthened Quality Standards

Talking about trauma and talking about its impact on the body and brain can be triggering, difficult and traumatic for people who have experienced trauma including training participants.
In this training we will be talking about the sort of things that people find traumatic but will avoid specific examples. If a point needs more context the trainer will provide examples on request.

Audience: In-home aged care providers including managers, care consultants, team leaders, clinical managers, and direct care workers and volunteers.
