Event description

Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is the first yoga-based empirically validated, clinical intervention for complex trauma or chronic, treatment-resistant post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).  A program of the Center for Trauma and Embodiment (CFTE), it is the only yoga model of its kind to have met the criteria for inclusion in the US-based National Registry of Evidenced-based Programs and Policies (NREPP) database published by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

This 20-hour (15 hours synchronous remote learning; 5 hours independent-study) foundational training will emphasize the core components of the practice of trauma-sensitive yoga, and how those fundamental elements relate to any anti-oppressive and trauma-informed work. This training will deepen our lens of “understanding” the WHAT of trauma and its neurological/somatic impacts on our brains and bodies; as well as the social/emotional/spiritual impacts on our relationships (to self, others, systems, community, and land). Participants will also gain concrete tools and experiential practices around the HOW of not “making more trauma” for the individuals and communities we may be working with - on & off the yoga mat; in & out of the therapy office; and everywhere in between!

Designed for anyone interested in deepening their understanding of the whole-system impact of complex trauma (both systemic and interpersonal), this training will review the significant effects of trauma on the brain, body, and relationships, as well as the psychological and neuroscientific underpinnings of the TCTSY model.  Participants may include, but are not limited to, social workers, mental health clinicians, educators, activists, community leaders, yoga instructors, somatic practitioners and healers, or other health care professionals, as its applications can extend far beyond the yoga mat.

Experiential in design, participants will gain specific tools to both practice and facilitate trauma-sensitive embodiment practices vital to the healing process of complex trauma.  This training is intended to support participants in expanding their current clinical, educational, or movement-based practice to incorporate some of the TCTSY methodology, focusing on language and relational dynamics that actively share power and agency with those whom work with.

While the Foundational Training does not qualify participants to facilitate Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga, it does provide the foundations for making your current scope of practice more trauma-informed. There are NO prerequisites to attend this training.  Although this training is the primary prerequisite to our yearly 300-hour Certification Program in TCTSY, it can stand also stand alone as a general framework to apply within diverse contexts (clinical, medical, educational, humanitarian, personal inquiry, daily life, etc.). *No component of this training will be recorded* and participants are expected to attend live and in full.

*Make up date*: For trainer-related illness/emergency ONLY: FRIDAY February 6th, 2026: 11am-4pm EST (5 hours)
