Event description

As we all know, the Aged Care Standards and new Aged Care Act require us to tailor aged care to the needs of the clients we are working with. In particular, we must be able to provide trauma aware, healing informed care.

The Aged Care Workforce Remote Accord has partnered with BBSafe (www.bbsafe.com.au) for the delivery of free training for leaders and staff in how to provide trauma informed aged care. BBSafe have worked in this field for over a decade, supporting people with complex trauma, particularly those who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse. Most recently, BBSafe have worked extensively with Helping Hand Aged Care on the Real Care the Second Time Around Project Forgotten Australians – Helping Hand, delivering in person and online training on providing trauma informed aged care for Forgotten Australians and Care Leavers.

BBSafe have now developed the Remote Area Trauma aware, healing informed aged care training package, tailored to the provision of aged care in remote communities. This includes working with a First Nations cultural consultant who has supported the development of materials and training to ensure it is safe and relevant for First Nations clients as well as staff who are First Nations.

The one hour session will focus on:

-            Why trauma aware, healing informed care is important

-            Building knowledge about trauma and how it impacts on people receiving aged care services

-            What trauma aware, healing informed practice looks like

-            What this means for people providing care

Any aged care staff or leaders or others involved in the sector are welcome to attend.
