Event description

About this event

Grafting Workshop in Pukerua Bay with Warren Kerruish

This is the time of the year for propagating fruit trees. So, for this workshop, we are fortunate to have been able to engage Warren Kerruish, who is an experienced local propagation specialist and horticultural educator. He will be sharing his expertise, in a small group setting, to help unravel the mysteries of successfully making more plants.

Limited to 25 people. The cost of the event is $35 for members [and $45 for non-members]. This includes your grafting of two rootstocks and scion woods. Additional rootstock and scion wood will be available for an additional cost of $10. This event is being subsidised by the Wellington Horowhenua Branch of NZTCA.

This event will be held, rain or shine.

For this workshop we have a range of apple scion wood available. This includes scion wood from a local treecropper, Hannah Dawson, whose passion is to save heritage apples growing in this region, as well as ‘wildlings’ from the Wellington region that have proved themselves in taste and resilience.

You will need to bring:

  • a damp cloth or newsprint to wrap around the roots of each tree

  • a plastic bag for taking them home

  • notebook and pen if you like to take notes

  • lunch

  • a mug for tea/coffee.

Grafting tools, grafting tape, pens etc. will be provided
